If you are just after a surf lesson, look no further than booking with us…You can surf with our dedicated instructors who provide structured lessons in a safe environment.

You will be provided with wetsuits to make sure that you are toasty warm throughout the session. You will also be provided with great boards so that you can glide along some Atlantic waves by the end of the lesson.

All lessons include:

Surfboard
Wetsuit
On beach practice
In water practical

The sessions last two hours and offer an excellent opportunity to grasp the basics or improve your skills.

In both Devon and Cornwall, there are a number of packages that we can offer to meet your needs. The packages are as follows:

½ Day package - £26

2 Hour surf session on Saturday or Sunday

Full Day package - £50

2 Hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon on Saturday or Sunday

Weekend package - £70

Full day Saturday and half day Sunday

Midweek bonus

5 Half day sessions - £120

5 Full days - £225

Where are the lessons?

In Devon the lessons are on Putsborough Sands (Georgeham, Devon EX33). In Cornwall you need to make your way to the outdoor activity centre on Widemouth Bay beach (Atlantic Court, Widemouth Bay, Bude, EX23 0DF). When you book we will forward you some clear instructions.

Safety in the Surf

Like any sport, surfing is physical and requires a certain level of fitness. However, it is not an exclusive sport and people of all shapes, sizes and ages can take part. Please note though, it is a BSA requirement that you can swim 50m and as such, you are asked to confirm this on the booking form.

We want everyone to have fun but we ask that you are responsible and take into account the safety briefing you are given when on the water.

The History of Surfing

Canoe surfing was witnessed by Captain James Cook in Tahiti during a voyage in 1769. However, it was not until 1778 when Cook dropped anchor off Hawaii that surfing as we know it today was witnessed. Cook drew a picture of a man paddling a surf board and documented this sighting with a written description – “I could not help concluding that this man felt the most supreme pleasure while he was driven on so fast and so smoothly by the sea".

He became the first known westerner to sight a standing surfer. Little did he know the impact that surfing would have on popular culture worldwide. Cook was unlikely to have realised at the time that he was probably watching royalty surf those Pacific waves. Surfing became known as the sport of kings and was born out of pleasure rather than competition. These kings surfed for sheer enjoyment and surfing has remains true to that philosophy today, the only benchmarks that you need to reach are those that you set for yourself and that is why anyone can do it.

Surfing arrived in the UK in the early part of the twentieth century and it is said to be Charles Snowy McAllister who first demonstrated surfing in England in 1928. Since this time, the surfing industry has gradually grown and surfing is now one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.
